Lindsey German reviews 'A Suffragette in America'

I am really delighted to share this great review of A Suffragette in America on Counterfire written by Lindsey German, the convenor of the Stop the War Coalition and author of many books which explore women's oppression and the fight for liberation (including How a Century of War Changed the Lives of Women).

Lindsey's review really captures the intensity of class struggle at the time Sylvia Pankhurst visited the US, Pankhurst's tireless quest to understand the nature of exploitation and oppression under capitalism, the importance of her socialist contribution to the suffragette movement as well as the power of her writing.

The review ends: "This period in the US helped to inform [Pankhurst] about the reality of capitalism and about the possibilities of fighting against it. Katherine has done an excellent job of pulling all this together in a scholarly yet accessible way. So, buy and read this book. You will enjoy it. Sylvia was a talented artist and writer and her descriptions bring scenes to life, whether she is describing New Mexico or New York."
